  1. 57 abstracts and papers have been accepted for short/long presentation for this year HELINA Conference. Conference program will be launched on the conference website on September 30, 2013 at the latest.
  2. Registration for the conference can be done via the conference management tool available at:
  3. Registration fee will be paid at the conference venue in US Dollar, Euro or Kenyan Shillings (1 US $ = 87.5 KES). You can also make the payment by September 26 using a bank to bank transfer. The recipient bank account details are:

  5. Participants who have registered for the conference and who require an invitation letter for entry visa to Kenya or other purpose can be sent an official letter to the conference upon request. Send your request to Visa can also be obtained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Please consult the Kenyan Embassy in your country for additional information
  6. Accommodation: Special rates have been arranged for conference participants at the conference’s hotel and hotels in close proximity of the conference location. Detailed information on accommodation is available at  
  7. Taxi transportation from Eldoret Airport to the conference venue is about KES. 2,000 (US $23). Please use only official taxis as guided by the information desk at the airport.
  8. Collaboration with OpenMRS: participants who have registered for the OpenMRS Implementers Meeting 2013 will not need to pay the HELINA registration fee. OpenMRS is supporting this year’s HELINA Conference. Details on this year’s OpenMRS Implementers Meeting are available at:  
  9. Collaboration with the Africa Build Consortium: the Africa Build consortium is organizing a Symposium on capacity building on the second day of the conference (Tuesday 8th October, 2013) Registration for this symposium can be made at

Pre-conference workshop focused on standardization and Open Source systems interoperability & health indicator extraction of information systems used in Africa is planned on Saturday 5th October, 2013 from 09:00 to 14:00 H. Semantic and technical interoperability will be discussed with regard to systems used in Africa: DHIS, GNU Health, MEDIBOARD, Openclinic, and OpenMRS.   13. Invitation to bid to host HELINA Conference 2014 and 2015:
    HELINA board announces that bids are open to HELINA member societies or future member societies for the hosting of HELINA Conference 2014 and 2015. Future member societies are national societies which are not HELINA or IMIA members. We encourage IMIA corresponding members and other health informatics or ehealth organization active in African countries to submit a bid. HELINA conference history is available at
